Aims and ObjectivesThe aims and objectives of our school are listed below and are intended to reflect the vision which governors, teaching and ancillary staff at Gaer Infant School would wish the school to realise.
We at Gaer Infant School aim to:- Create a happy, stable, caring environment which provides the opportunity for every child to fulfil his/her potential in all areas of the curriculum.
- Stimulate the desire for knowledge and help children to acquire the confidence to tackle new challenges.
- Teach pupils to have self respect for others and their beliefs and opinions, even though they may not be in accordance with their own.
ObjectivesThe objectives of the school encompass the all-round development of the child during the nursery and infant years. The development may be categorised into:
- Intellectual Dedvelopment
- Physical Development
- Spiritual/Social/Moral Development
Intellectual Development will be achieved by:- The extension of all aspects of literacy skills: listening, speaking, handwriting, spelling and creativity in writing.
- The development of mathematical concepts and skills through interactive teaching and first hand experiences.
- The development of knowledge of the environment, both immediate and distant, using the school grounds, the local community and other environments as a resource.
- The fostering of an awareness of place in time and acquisition of knowledge of the past, drawing on and using all available resources.
- The development of an understanding of simple scientific processes and through observation, experimentation, and the formulation and testing of hypothesis, the knowledge of scientific concepts.
- The development of an understanding of modern technology through children using up to date resources.
- The availability of opportunities to make music and to enjoy and appreciate music of all kinds and from different cultures.
- The opportunity to develop manipulative and creative skills through Art and Craft using various techniques and mediums.
Physical development will be achieved by:- Developing an understanding of the functions of the body through the first hand sensitive teaching, and to make the child aware of the importance of personal hygiene and cleanliness.
- Developing the child's gross and fine motor skills through physical Education and to encourage the child to take pride in their achievement.
Spiritual/Social/Moral Development will be achieved by:- Developing in the child knowledge of Christianity and other faiths and philosophies, and to encourage the child to participate in acts of worship.
- Encouraging the child to display kindness, consideration and sensitivity to the feelings of others through a programme of planned teaching. The staff will offer sympathetic help to assist the child to understand his/her emotions.
- The encouragement by all to develop a community spirit both at school and in the locality. The children are part of the community and must learn that they have a contribution to make to the well being of the whole community.
